Old love letters, a t-shirt, your grandmother's perfume, shoes, books, a napkin. We have whispers of the past in all places and all things. If you're ready for the sad ones to have a new home and a new life, please contact me. We can work together to listen.
What is the process?
People contact me because they have an object they haven't been able to let go of. They either mail or give me the object if they live nearby or if i'm travelling to their area. We talk about your attachment to the object and the story behind it.
Do you make whatever you want?
No. I always talk through ideas with the person who donated the object. I will not start to take it apart until I get the go-ahead, and if someone wanted the item back when it came time to take it apart, I would send it back to them. We are working together collaboratively so other people can learn about our experiences. I want to make sure i'm "getting it right".
Can I donate anonymously?
Yes. I would need to be able to contact you in some way to do the process outlined above, but I don't need to know your name or address. I will post about your item and the story on my website, in shows and on social media but I can leave out any details that could identify you. Alternatively, I can tag you and put your name in it if you want your story made more public.
How long will it take for you to make something with my object?
It depends on the object and the story. Sometimes it takes me a while to think of a concept, and sometimes it takes me a while to actually create the piece. In the case of Loving You Hurt More It took over 3 months just to cut the paper and make the yarn before I even started weaving. Part of the process is the labour involved, so sometimes it can take a bit of time to create something with your object.
